WAPA’s Higher Grades classes transition dancers into elevated training. Working to develop the artistry and quality of movement along side technique challenges.

Higher Grades Classes are full season classes where dancers are expected to commit to the full season from Sept-June with two shows, monthly fee, costume fee and WAPA uniform.

Higher Grades Classes

All higher grades classes require 2 years of dance experience except for the basics classes on Mondays

Mondays

  • 4-5:15pm Ballet + Contemporary Basics age 9+

    for dancers who are beginner

  • 5-6pm Acrobatics + Jazz Basics age 9+

    for dancers who are beginner

  • 7:15-8:30pm Higher Grades Ballet 1 age 11-12

  • 8:30-9pm Higher Grades Pointe 1 age 11-12

    open to all higher grades dancers who are in ballet, please purchase your pointe shoes AFTER starting class and talking with your teacher

Tuesdays

  • 4-5pm Higher Grades Competition Class

    for dancers who are taking Higher Grades 1 or 2 ballet, contemporary modern, and jazz and who want the added experience of competition. Please see the competition info below

Wednesdays

  • 7:15-8:30pm Higher Grades Ballet 2 age 13+

  • 8:30-9pm Higher Grades Pointe 2 age 13+

    open to all higher grades dancers who are in ballet, if you don’t have pointe shoes yet - please purchase your pointe shoes AFTER starting class and talking with your teacher

Thursdays

  • 7-8pm Higher Grades Jazz 1 age 11-12

  • 7-8pm Higher Grades Modern 2 ages 13+

  • 8-9pm Higher Grades Jazz 2 ages 13+

  • 8-9pm Higher Grades Modern 1 ages 11-12

Fridays

  • 7-8pm Higher Grades Acrobatics age 11+

    dancers must have 2 years acro experience and attend a ballet or jazz class to enter

  • 8-9pm Higher Grades Hip Hop ages 11+

Competition Information

Competition is for dancers who want - extra stage time, specialized choreography & a supportive team environment

Higher Grades students can participate in an extra class per week and this classes focus on competition choreography. The group choreography will be entered into three competitions each spring. The competitions will all take place on the island (probably two in Victoria and one in Nanaimo). Competitions are chosen in June and announced for the following season.

At competition, groups will be given feedback either in person or by video recording and given a placement based on their mark. Competitions are high energy environments where dancers can meet others, watch lots of dance and enjoy the thrill of dancing on stage.

Competition Requirements

2 years dance experience, must attend ballet, contemporary modern and jazz class as well as the competition class, must attend all competition classes and will be asked to withdraw if the miss more then 3, must attend all competition dates.

Investment

Full season classes:

Monthly Fee - 60 min class 76.75, see pricing page for discounts on multiple classes

Yearly Registration Fee per student 40.00

WAPA Uniform Bodysuit 45.00

WAPA Tights 22.00

June Show Costume 100.00

Show Photos and Videos 45.00

Competition Class:

Monthly Fee of 76.75 on top of discounted regular classes

Costume/s for competition group approx. 100.00

Entry Fees for all 3 competitions approx. 150.00



Uniforms

WAPA uniform bodysuits and tights are purchased through the studio on the uniform sale weekend in Sept or at the desk year round. Dance shoes are purchased from Stretch Dance Shop at Uptown or Toes N Taps Dance Shoppe at Cook st Village.

Dancers can wear whichever uniform aligns with them.

Ballet :

Female Identifying Uniform: hair in ballet bun, WAPA black bodysuit, ballet tights & canvas ballet slippers matching your skin tone or ballet pink

Male Identifying Uniform: hair off face, black dance shirt, black ballet leggings, black socks, black ballet slippers

Modern - Jazz - Acrobatics:

Female Identifying Uniform: hair off face in ponytail, WAPA black bodysuit, black yoga shorts, bare feet

Male Identifying Uniform: hair off face, black dance male shirt, black dance leggings or shorts, bare feet

Hip Hop:

Comfortable regular tee shirt (no crop tops), pants or sweatpants, clean inside runners, hair off face
